Drivers using Highway 41 south of Vermilion, Alberta, will face delays and single-lane traffic from July 20 to July 27, 2026, as crews perform bridge maintenance at the Battle River crossing. According to 511 Alberta, the work happens during daylight hours only. Flag crews will manage alternating traffic on the bridge, and speed limits will be reduced in the work zone.
The maintenance is part of Alberta Transportation’s Bridge Inspection and Maintenance program, which keeps the province’s roughly 4,800 bridges and interchanges in safe condition. The Battle River bridge sits at kilometre 517.1 on Highway 41, about 40 kilometres south of Vermilion in the Municipal District of Wainwright No. 61. The crossing is used by local residents, farmers, and commercial traffic moving through eastern Alberta.
Highway 41, also called Buffalo Trail, stretches 686 kilometres from the U.S. border to northern Alberta and is part of the Eastern Alberta Trade Corridor. The maintenance comes at a time when other parts of the highway have had problems from heavy rain this summer. Flooding near Elk Point, north of Vermilion, damaged parts of Highway 41 and forced a temporary closure.
