The Sylvan Lake Gulls are heading back to the Western Canadian Baseball League postseason for the fifth straight year, locking up second place in the West Division after a win in Lethbridge on August 2, 2026. The team officially secured its playoff spot after a pair of dominant wins over the Fort McMurray Giants on July 27, with the postseason berth confirmed on July 29.
The Gulls finished the regular season at 38-18, trailing only the Okotoks Dawgs in the division. Their first home playoff game is set for Friday, August 7, at 7:05 p.m. at Gulls Stadium against the Lethbridge Bulls in a best-of-three Western Conference Semi-Final, with games two and three also scheduled for the weekend if needed.
This year’s playoff run follows a heartbreaking end to the 2025 season, when Sylvan Lake fell to the Regina Red Sox 5-4 in Game 3 of the league championship series. That near miss brought many players back for another shot. General Manager Jason Chatwood said the close call was a big reason so many veterans returned. “Last year, winning the West was a huge step for us, and we got virtually as close as you can without winning it,” he said. Catcher Gavin Galenza added, “We got so close last year and didn’t finish it off, but hopefully this year we can change that and go get that first one in Gulls history.”
Playoff tickets are available now on the Sylvan Lake Gulls website, with Berm and General Admission seats starting at $15 and Eagle Builders Loge CEN seats up to $50. A playoff package covering all six possible home games is also offered. For fans who can’t make it to the ballpark, games will be streamed live on FloSports.
Beyond the playoffs, the team has announced the return of the Gulls Summer Send-Off on August 22. The third annual festival, presented by Z98.9 – Red Deer’s Classic Rock, will feature tribute bands ABBA Revisited, The Hip Replacements, and PWR UP (AC/DC tribute).
The Gulls, who joined the league as an expansion club in 2021, have quickly become a regular contender in the 12-team circuit across Alberta and Saskatchewan.
