Residents can visit four local farms and learn about regional agriculture during the 14th annual Alberta Open Farm Days on August 15 and 16, 2026. Locally organized by Clearwater County and the Rocky Mountain House Agricultural Society, with promotion by regional tourism group David Thompson Country, the event is part of a province-wide celebration connecting urban and rural neighbours.
Participating farms include Hamingja – Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve north of Leslieville, Little Farm on Wall Street between Condor and Eckville, Mathey Farms in the Caroline area, and Rocky Wolf Ranch near Rocky Mountain House. Hours vary: Hamingja is open Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Little Farm on Wall Street is open both days from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m., Mathey Farms welcomes visitors both days from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Rocky Wolf Ranch is open both days from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
The Rocky Mountain House Agricultural Society is also organizing a free caravan tour on Saturday, August 15. Participants meet at the Leslieville Community Center at 9:30 a.m. and carpool to visit local farms, then return for a farm-to-table dinner featuring ingredients from the same farms. Dinner costs $50 for adults and $15 for youth ages 2-12.
Each farm offers a unique experience. Hamingja – Heritage Farm & Nature Preserve showcases ancient livestock breeds such as Soay sheep, one of the world’s oldest sheep breeds, plus other heritage animals and rainbow trout. Little Farm on Wall Street, owned by Brittany and Ryan Krook, offers u-pick flowers, an artisan farmers market, and candle studio tours. Mathey Farms raises pigs, sheep, cattle, chickens, turkeys, and ducks using regenerative practices like rotational grazing.
Alberta Open Farm Days, coordinated provincially by the Alberta Association of Agricultural Societies, uses this year’s theme “Rangelands and Pastoralists” to highlight the importance of Alberta’s agricultural lands and those who steward them.
