The Sylvan Lake Gulls are moving on in the Western Canadian Baseball League playoffs after a 3-2 win over the Lethbridge Bulls on August 9, 2026. The deciding Game 3 victory at Spitz Stadium secured a spot in the Western Division Finals for the second straight year.
The Gulls finished the regular season with a 38-18 record, good for second place in the West Division. They carried momentum into the postseason by winning eight of their last ten games and allowing the fewest runs in the league during the regular season.
Outfielder Charlie Collins, who joined the team from Southeastern University in Florida, has been a spark since arriving mid-season. Earlier this month, he went 4-for-4 with three runs scored and two RBI in a game at Lethbridge. In the decisive Game 3, a double by Johnboy Rittenhouse drove in a key run.
The Gulls now face the top-seeded Okotoks Dawgs in the best-of-three Western Division Finals. The Dawgs rolled through the first round, sweeping the Energy City Cactus Rats by scores of 24-7 and 16-6. Game 1 is set for August 11 in Okotoks, with Game 2 back in Sylvan Lake on August 12.
Sylvan Lake is looking to take the next step after falling to the Regina Red Sox in last year’s championship series. A win over their longtime rivals would put the Gulls back in the league final for a shot at the franchise’s first WCBL title.
