The Battle of the Rockies returned to Rocky Mountain House, Alberta this week, bringing the World Professional Chuckwagon Association (WPCA) World Finals to North Saskatchewan River Park from August 12 to 16.
Gates opened at 5:00 p.m. on Wednesday, with nine heats of racing starting at 7:00 p.m. each night. On Sunday, gates open at noon and the Dash for Cash begins at 2:00 p.m. Tickets are about $30 for adults, while children 9 and under get in free.
Thirty-six drivers will compete in heats of four wagons over four nights, with the top four in playoff standings advancing to Sunday’s Championship Final Heat. More than $200,000 in cash and prizes are on the line, including $28,000 and a one-year lease on a 2026 GMC truck for the Kirk’s Trail Tire Series Champion.
The event features more than just racing. Preshow entertainment includes trick riding, the Rocky Wranglers, junior steer riding, and miniature chuckwagon races. Live music, vendors, family activities, and on-site RV camping round out the festival.
Last year’s event drew about 2,000 more fans than previous years, with visitors coming from as far as New Brunswick and the United States. The Rocky Mountain House Chuckwagon Association was named WPCA Committee of the Year in 2023 and again in 2025.
In 2025, Jason Glass won the Battle of the Rockies Championship with a track record run of 1:12.25. Chanse Vigen captured his third consecutive World Chuckwagon Championship, tying a record held by only four other drivers.
