By Tuesday, conditions are expected to clear, launching a steady warm-up that peaks at 29°C on Thursday, August 20. That is four degrees above the seasonal normal high of 25°C for this time of year.
The warming trend is a welcome shift for locals and visitors alike, especially those planning to enjoy Gimli Beach or take part in summer activities around Lake Winnipeg.
Friday introduces a 60 percent chance of showers and a high of 24°C, but the forecast brightens again for the weekend, with sunny skies and highs of 25°C on Saturday and 26°C on Sunday.
This week’s above-normal temperatures are consistent with a broader pattern climatologist David Phillips attributes to a “super El Nino” influencing Manitoba’s summer. The province has already seen 15 days above 30°C this season, compared with a typical total of seven.
