Blackfalds residents will soon have a new free outdoor activity as Town Council approved a five-hole disc golf course at McKay Ranch park on August 25, 2026.

The course will be built in two phases. Five holes will go in right away in the already-developed park area. Four more holes will be added later once the surrounding McKay Ranch development is complete, making nine holes in total.

Derek Starnes, Sports and Events Manager, presented the plan to the Standing Committee of Council on July 20, 2026. The committee unanimously recommended the project, and Council gave final approval.

This is the first formal Town-sanctioned disc golf course in Blackfalds. McKay Ranch already features over 20 acres of parks and greenspace, natural areas, a western-themed playground, and walking trails on the east side of town.

The course aligns with the Town’s 2026-2030 Strategic Plan priorities of Community Life, Safety, and Inclusion, and Sustainable Services and Infrastructure.

More information about the project is available on the Town of Blackfalds website.
