Wainwright High School students and staff are lacing up for their annual Terry Fox School Run on Friday, September 25, 2026 in Wainwright, Alberta. The event aims to raise $1,800 for cancer research.
The run is part of the national Terry Fox School Run, which encourages schools to hold events on any day that works for them. This year marks the 46th annual Terry Fox Run, and schools across Canada raised $15.75 million in 2025-2026.
“Terry started a marathon against cancer and together, we can finish it,” the school’s announcement reads. Community members can support the effort by donating through the school’s fundraising page.
The event carries extra significance this year. In February 2026, the Terry Fox Foundation announced it had surpassed $1 billion in total funds raised for cancer research since Terry Fox’s Marathon of Hope began in 1980.
The need for funding remains urgent. An estimated 254,100 new cancer cases are projected in Canada in 2026, according to the Canadian Cancer Society. More than 82 cents of every dollar raised through Terry Fox events goes directly to cancer research.
