Amherstburg Community Services has started its annual March for Meals campaign in Amherstburg, Ontario, to raise money and awareness for seniors who need food assistance. The campaign encourages the community to donate and volunteer to help local residents maintain their health and independence.
On March 20, 2026, eight local businesses took part in an event called Restaurants Unite to Support Meals on Wheels. These restaurants, including Artisan Grill, Speck’s Restaurant, and Kona, donated between $1 and $5 for every meal they sold to help fund the local delivery program.
The Amherstburg Community Services team currently serves about 110 clients and delivers roughly 16,000 meals each year. A group of nearly 100 volunteers helps deliver these daily meals, which cost $8.00 and include a main dish, sides, soup, and dessert.
This local effort is part of a province-wide initiative led by the Ontario Community Support Association. This year’s theme is More Than a Meal, which focuses on how delivery drivers provide social connection and safety checks for seniors and people with disabilities.
The local organization was first started in 1973 by a small group of residents who were worried about the nutrition of seniors in the community. It has since grown to provide over 20 different services for people living in Amherstburg, LaSalle, Harrow, and McGregor.
