Residents in Amherstburg can look forward to an expanded lineup of events this summer at Fort Malden National Historic Site, which officially kicks off its 2026 season on May 16. Among the upcoming highlights are two ticketed experiences that offer new ways for the community to engage with local history.
The annual Fort Malden Living History Festival returns to the site on August 1 and 2. Running from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day, the event costs $5.75 per person and features a variety of historical demonstrations, including period encampments, re-enactors, live cooking, musical performances, and historic weapons displays.
On August 8, the fort will introduce an interactive Murder Mystery event. Participants are invited to channel their inner detectives to solve a historical whodunnit by exploring the site, interviewing suspects, and uncovering clues. The event runs from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. and costs $20.25 per person. Because space is limited, those interested must pre-register by emailing [email protected]. Organizers note that this event is weather dependent, and any cancellations will be posted on social media.
While the Canada Strong Pass provides free admission to the fort from June 19 to September 7, 2026, visitors should be aware that special event fees still apply to these specific activities. For more information on the full 2026 calendar of events at the site, located at 100 Laird Avenue South, residents can contact staff at 519-736-5416.
