Drivers in Amherstburg will face travel disruptions in early May as the Town of Amherstburg moves forward with essential water and sewer upgrades. From May 4 to May 6, 2026, Front Road North will be closed to through traffic between Thrasher Drive and North Sideroad to accommodate necessary infrastructure work.
While the closure is in effect, local residents will still be able to access their driveways. All other motorists are asked to follow the posted detour routes and signage to navigate around the construction area.
This upcoming closure coincides with other ongoing work in the community. North Sideroad remains closed between Howard Avenue and 8th Concession Road for a watermain project that began on April 20. Additionally, the intersection of North Sideroad and 8th Concession Road will be fully closed on May 4, which is the same day work begins on Front Road.
These projects are part of a broader push to modernize local systems. The provincial government has provided significant funding to support these efforts, including $9.3 million for wastewater infrastructure to assist with new housing developments and an additional $3.7 million to replace aging sewer infrastructure on Richmond Street. According to the County of Essex, this work is included in a large-scale construction program that has dedicated over $24 million specifically to road improvements across the region this year.
