The Royal Canadian Mounted Police is looking for a permanent Detachment Services Assistant to work at its Arviat detachment, with the job posted on September 2, 2026. The full-time, on-site position pays $57,217 a year plus a Nunavut Northern Allowance of $22,622 for eligible federal employees.
The assistant will provide administrative and operational support to police officers, handle front counter and telephone inquiries, and serve as the public’s main contact at the detachment at 402 4th Avenue. Applications close September 11, 2026, through Jobs.gc.ca, reference number RCM26J-189565-000006.
The hire comes as Nunavut faces an RCMP vacancy rate of 21.5 percent, among the highest in Canada. Only 4 of 157 officers in the territory are Inuit, a gap Chief Superintendent Kent Pike, commanding officer of V Division, has said he wants to close.
Arviat is a predominantly Inuit hamlet of about 3,170 people in the Kivalliq Region. The current detachment building was completed in October 2018, replacing a facility that had served for nearly 40 years.
