The Town of Bay Roberts is teaming up with neighbouring communities across Conception Bay North to develop a new community safety and well-being plan. This regional initiative aims to foster a more proactive approach to local safety by working collectively through the Joint Council of Conception Bay North.
The effort follows a 14 percent increase in police service calls across the region recorded in 2023. By pooling resources and expertise, the council, which represents 11 municipalities, aims to address these rising concerns with a unified voice. Bay Roberts Mayor Geoff Seymour, who serves as chairman of the organization, noted that local communities are more effective when they speak together on safety issues.
For its part, Bay Roberts has dedicated $618,352 to protection and safety services in its 2026 operating budget. This investment is part of a larger town budget totaling $10,624,351, which the town successfully balanced without increasing residential or commercial tax rates.
Beyond regional collaboration, Bay Roberts is updating its own internal safety procedures. Town officials are currently modernizing emergency management plans to better prepare for scenarios such as water shortages or the need for emergency evacuations. These safety improvements are supported by ongoing regional efforts, including the use of a shared municipal enforcement officer funded by the provincial government.
The town remains focused on utilizing these regional partnerships to strengthen support and prevention services for all residents in the area.
