Amalgamated Academy in Bay Roberts, N.L., hosted its Junior High Wellness Day and thanked special guest speaker Jacob Lewis on the school website. The announcement highlighted the visit as part of the school’s programming for junior high students.
Lewis, a singer from nearby Butlerville, became widely known after winning Season 5 of Canada’s Got Talent in May 2025 and taking home the $1 million grand prize. During his audition he performed Jon Bon Jovi’s “Bed of Roses” and earned a golden buzzer from judge Shania Twain, which advanced him directly to the later rounds of the competition.
Outside of music, Lewis works in offshore oil and gas construction and is a father to twin sons born with health complications, a reality that has affected his ability to pursue music full time. When he returned to Newfoundland after his Canada’s Got Talent win, the community greeted him with a celebration and a motorcade escorted by the Bay Roberts fire and police departments.
The school’s school profile shows Amalgamated Academy serves grades 4 to 9 and operates under the Newfoundland and Labrador English School District. For families in Bay Roberts, events such as a dedicated Wellness Day and a visit from a local role model are practical ways schools can bring attention to student health and well-being in the junior high years.
