Bay Roberts, Newfoundland and Labrador, is in for a wet and foggy start to the week, with Environment Canada forecasting periods of rain and dense fog through Wednesday before conditions improve on Thursday.
As of late Tuesday morning, visibility at St. John’s International Airport had dropped to just 0.2 kilometres, with 100 percent humidity and temperatures hovering around 14 degrees. Environment Canada says fog patches will linger through Tuesday night into Wednesday morning, bringing reduced visibility for drivers and anyone heading outdoors.
Rainfall amounts of 5 to 10 millimetres are expected Tuesday, with another 2 to 4 millimetres overnight. There is also a risk of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon, and east winds will pick up, gusting to 40 km/h. Residents should plan for slick roads and limited visibility if travelling.
By Thursday, July 30, the weather is expected to turn more pleasant, with a mix of sun and cloud and daytime highs near 20 degrees. The fog is forecast to clear out Wednesday morning, giving way to a brighter end of the week.
While no marine weather warnings are in effect for waters near Bay Roberts, the fog is creating hazardous conditions for both land and marine activities. Sea fog is common along Newfoundland’s southern coast in summer as onshore winds blow over chilly ocean waters that are just 10 to 13 degrees.
