Anna Fagnan, a first-year teacher at Assumption Jr/Sr High School in Cold Lake, has been nominated by Lakeland Catholic School Division for the 2026 Edwin Parr Teacher Award, one of Alberta’s most prestigious honours for new educators.
The award, administered by the Alberta School Boards Association, recognizes outstanding first-year kindergarten to Grade 12 teachers who demonstrate excellence in the Teaching Quality Standard. Six teachers across the province receive the award each year.
Fagnan’s nomination highlights her commitment to student learning, Catholic education values, and the Christ-centered approach she brings to her classroom. She was celebrated at a recent event attended by Board Chair Anna Brockhoff, Trustee Dana Chaulk, and Director of Learning Excellence Dr. Maureen Ference.
The Edwin Parr Teacher Award was established in 1964 to honour former Alberta School Trustees’ Association president Edwin Parr, who served from 1956 until his passing in 1962. Lakeland Catholic School Division serves students from kindergarten to Grade 12 in Bonnyville, Cold Lake, Lac La Biche, and Waskatenau.
Assumption Jr/Sr High School, where Fagnan teaches, is a Grade 7-12 school within the division. The nomination recognizes her work as a first-year teacher and her alignment with the division’s mission of providing quality Catholic education.
