Brockville General Hospital finalized an agreement on March 17, 2026, to purchase the former Commonwealth Public School property to expand healthcare services in Brockville, Ontario. The hospital intends to use the site to grow its medical facilities and offer more care options to the local community.
The deal was reached between the hospital and the Upper Canada District School Board to take over the property on Charles Street. This location is directly next to the current hospital campus, which makes it a key spot for future building projects and service expansion.
According to Brockville General Hospital, the new space will be used to modernize health services and bring different departments together. The plan includes creating more room for family medical care and specialized health programs for residents as the city grows.
The former school building has recently been used as a temporary overnight warming centre for people in need. The hospital will move forward with its redevelopment work once the warming centre finishes its operations at the site.
There are also discussions about working with the Lanark, Leeds and Grenville Ontario Health Team at the new location. The organizations are looking at using the space to open healthcare clinics led by nurse practitioners to help more local patients get the care they need.
