The City of Brockville, Ontario, has officially approved its 2026 municipal budget, which will result in a 3.99 percent increase to the average residential property tax bill. This decision comes after local leaders worked to lower the tax hike from initial projections that were much higher at the start of the year.
For a resident with a home valued at $250,000, the change means paying about $172 more per year. Mayor Matt Wren presented the final plan, which was voted on and passed by the Brockville City Council to set the rates for the 2026 budget year.
The final increase is lower than the amounts discussed earlier in the planning process. Initial reports suggested that property taxes could have jumped by as much as 5.72 percent or even 6.7 percent before the council found ways to reduce spending.
These adjustments were made to balance the cost of city services with what residents could realistically afford. The approved budget is now in place, and the new tax rates will be applied to residential properties throughout the community.
