Brockville, Ontario will have a new mayor after voters head to the polls on October 26, 2026. Current Mayor Matt Wren announced in March that he will not seek re-election, opening the door for a competitive race. As of late July, two candidates have filed their nomination papers: city councillor Cameron Wales and former Elizabethtown-Kitley councillor Tom Linton.
Wren, who was acclaimed as mayor in 2022 after former mayor David Henderson retired, cited a growing senior role at Guaranteed Funeral Deposits as the reason he will not run again. His departure ends a short but steady term and creates the first open mayoral contest in Brockville since 2018.
Wales, a two-term councillor, officially entered the race on May 1, 2026. Linton, who previously served on council in a neighbouring municipality, is also in the running. Both have until August 21 at 2:00 pm to keep their names on the ballot. That means more candidates could still join the race in the next few weeks.
The 2018 mayoral election saw a much more crowded field, with Jason Baker, Kelly Cole, Cec Drake, and Mark Oliver all on the ticket. Baker won that race by just 19 votes. This time around, the field is smaller so far, but the nomination period remains open.
