Halton Regional Police are asking for the public’s help to find a large angel burial monument stolen from the Lowville United Church Cemetery on Britannia Road in Burlington, Ontario. The statue, a 4.5-foot tall cast resin angel weighing about 100 pounds, was reported stolen on May 26, 2026, but investigators believe it was taken sometime between May 16 and May 22.
The historic cemetery, which has served the Lowville community since 1864, is located at 2707 Britannia Road on the north side of the road just west of Guelph Line. Police have released a photo of the stolen monument and hope someone may have seen it or noticed suspicious activity in the area during that time.
“Anyone who has observed the monument, or anyone who may have information relating to its disappearance is asked to contact the 3 District Criminal Investigations Bureau at 905-825-4777 ext. 2316,” the Halton Regional Police said in a statement. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
This theft follows a broader pattern of cemetery crimes in southern Ontario, though police have not said if this case is connected to any previous investigations. In late 2025, Halton police led a large probe into organized thefts from cremation niches at eight cemeteries across Toronto, Hamilton, and Niagara that resulted in arrests and the recovery of more than 600 stolen items. The missing angel statue is a different kind of crime, targeting a physical monument at a small rural cemetery.
Police are urging anyone who might have been in the area of Britannia Road near Guelph Line in late May or who has seen the angel statue for sale or on display to come forward. Even small details could help investigators return the monument to its rightful place.
