A new four-part workshop series kicks off this month to help Claresholm residents turn business ideas into reality or strengthen their existing operations. Community Futures Alberta Southwest, in partnership with Business Link Alberta, is launching the Rural Business Blueprint Series, with the first session, From Idea to Opportunity, on Thursday, September 17, 2026.
The series is designed for anyone with a business idea or a desire to grow an existing one. Participants can attend in person at the Fort Macleod Town Office, 410 20 Street, for $15 per session, which includes a light lunch. Attend the first three sessions and the fourth is free. A free virtual evening option is also available from 7:00 to 8:30 p.m. for those who cannot travel.
The timing is significant for Claresholm. The town had 181 businesses in 2025, down from 184 the year before, a 1.63 percent decline. The town’s Economic Development Committee has made business support a priority in its 2024-2026 Strategic Plan, and this series directly addresses the need to attract new entrepreneurs and support current owners.
Community Futures Alberta Southwest is a non-profit that has helped rural businesspeople in 21 southwest Alberta communities, including Claresholm, for more than 30 years. Business Link Alberta is a non-profit, government-funded organization that gives free, tailored support to small businesses across the province.
After the September 17 session, the series continues on November 12 with From Rural Roots to Revenue, on January 21 with Rural Dollars & Decisions, and ends March 11 with Work Smarter in Rural Business. Dates and details are available on the series event page.
