A recent traffic enforcement blitz in the Claresholm area led to 16 tickets and 5 warnings for drivers, as peace officers from three municipalities teamed up to crack down on speeding and aggressive driving.
Peace officers from the M.D. of Willow Creek, M.D. of Ranchland, and the Town of Stavely conducted the joint patrols on Highway 22 and Highway 527 in early August. Their focus was reducing dangerous driving behaviours and improving road safety in rural southern Alberta.
One driver was caught going 149 km/h in a 100 km/h zone on Highway 22 in Ranchland. That speed lands a $723 fine under Alberta’s updated penalty schedule that took effect in March 2026, and the fine rises to $1,200 if workers or emergency responders were present.
On Highway 527, near Stavely, officers stopped another vehicle and discovered it was unregistered and uninsured. The driver now faces additional charges.
The M.D. of Willow Creek says road safety is a shared responsibility. They remind everyone that slowing down, following traffic laws, and making sure your vehicle is properly registered and insured are simple steps that help keep communities safe.
