The West Shore Parks & Recreation Society is looking for volunteers, vendors, and sponsors to help pull off its 60th anniversary bash at Juan de Fuca Lower Park in Colwood, BC. The Party in the Park runs September 12, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., and organizers are throwing open the doors for locals to pitch in or set up shop.
The free community celebration packs a full slate of family activities. A morning Family Fun Run offers 1 km and 3 km routes, followed by a free pancake breakfast. Live music and dance hit the stage all day, with the lək̓ʷəŋən Traditional Dancers, Jaimeson Rhy, Luke Lampard Music, and Cookeilidh on the bill. Kids can burn energy in a zone filled with bouncy castles and craft stations, while a dunk tank invites people to soak community guests. Food trucks will be on site, and the rec centre is rolling out throwback pricing for fitness, swimming, and skating.
West Shore Parks and Rec traces its start to 1966, when the original Juan de Fuca Parks and Recreation Commission was formed. Today the society manages 109 acres of parkland and facilities used by Colwood, Langford, View Royal, Metchosin, and Highlands. This year’s birthday also marks 25 years since the Centennial Pool opened.
Anyone interested in volunteering, sponsoring, or running a vendor booth can sign up now through the Party in the Park website. Sponsorship packages range from $2,000 for a presenting slot down to in-kind contributions, with individual forms available for each role.
