The Gimli Chamber of Commerce is inviting residents to help beautify the town during a community cleanup event planned for today, Wednesday, May 20, 2026. According to the Chamber, from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., volunteers can gather at the local Access Credit Union to pick up supplies and assist in clearing litter from areas throughout the community.
Those looking to participate will find garbage bags and gloves available at the credit union branch. Volunteers can choose specific zones for cleanup efforts and are encouraged to return their collected bags to the same location. In the event of poor weather, a rain date is set for Thursday, May 21, per the organizers.
This initiative is supported by the Rural Municipality of Gimli, which provides logistical assistance for the cleanup. As a token of appreciation for their work, the organizers will provide free hot dogs, drinks, and chips to all volunteers who take part in the afternoon activities.
The cleanup serves as a way to engage residents while maintaining the appearance of the town. The Chamber of Commerce, a volunteer-led group representing local businesses, has held similar community efforts in previous years to foster neighbourhood connections.
