On March 5, 2026, the Gimli Environmental Advisory Committee (GEAC) shared a call for new volunteers to help with green initiatives in the Rural Municipality of Gimli, Manitoba. The group is searching for residents who want to help shape local environmental policies and promote eco-friendly habits throughout the community.
The committee acts as an advisory group that provides suggestions to the local council on environmental issues and green infrastructure. Members also focus on public education to help neighbours learn more about protecting the local environment.
One of the most visible projects managed by the group is the care of more than 40 community garden plots located north of the Gimli Horizons 55+ building. These spaces provide residents who may not have their own yard with the opportunity to grow food and connect with nature.
This recruitment effort was recently highlighted through the Meanwhile in Gimli community social media page as part of an ongoing drive to find dedicated residents. Those who join will have a direct way to influence how the Rural Municipality of Gimli manages its ecological footprint and future green projects.
