Tuesday will bring a change with showers developing, followed by more rain on Wednesday. Winds will pick up by Thursday as the temperature drops to around 16°C, roughly six degrees below the seasonal average. Environment Canada is calling for rain and windy conditions that day.
The wet weather is not unusual for this time of year. June is historically the wettest month in Gimli, with an average of 94.1 mm of rain and about 13 rainy days. The community, located on the west shore of Lake Winnipeg, often sees variable spring weather patterns.
Conditions are expected to improve by Friday and into the weekend. Environment Canada forecasts a high of 18°C on Friday with a mix of sun and cloud, and the warming trend is likely to continue Saturday. No weather alerts have been issued for the area.
The shift comes as global patterns move away from La Niña toward a strong El Niño, which can bring more unsettled weather to Manitoba. The Weather Network’s summer outlook called for near-normal temperatures overall but warned of cooler interruptions in June.
In June 2024, a rainy June dumped 110.3 mm on Gimli, hurting tourism and outdoor businesses. This week’s rain will likely be less severe, but those planning to spend time on the water or at local attractions should be ready for the mid-week cooldown.
