The town of Gimli, Manitoba, will host the Winnipeg Jets for a day of community events and hockey celebrations on March 19, 2026. This special visit, known as a town takeover, follows a successful public voting campaign where local residents secured the visit from the professional hockey club.
Residents and fans helped the community win the hosting rights by submitting more than 12,500 votes in a competition organized by True North Sports + Entertainment. Gimli beat out other finalists to bring the professional team experience to the local area for this event.
The day includes several activities, starting with mental wellness sessions for students at local schools through a program called Project 11. Young hockey players in the community will also have the chance to participate in on-ice sessions led by team alumni and friends.
To end the day, a free all-ages watch party will be held for the game between the Winnipeg Jets and the Boston Bruins. The celebration will feature the team mascot, Mick E. Moose, along with prize giveaways and game-day hosts to bring the professional hockey atmosphere directly to the community.
