The EVK Memorial Swimming Pool in Kensington, Prince Edward Island, reopened for the summer on July 1, 2026 at noon, giving local families a free outdoor recreation spot right in town. Located at 25 School Street, the pool is part of the Credit Union Centre complex and runs seven days a week with no cost to enter.
Public swimming hours are Monday to Friday from noon to 5 p.m., and on weekends from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Families can swim for free, and the Town of Kensington reminds everyone that there is a 75-person limit on the pool and deck area at any one time for safety.
Starting July 6, the pool will also offer swimming lessons for children. Public lesson programs run through late August, with the final sessions ending August 24, 29, or 30 depending on the day of the week. Private and shared lesson programs run through August 27. Prices for public lessons are $65 for the first child and $55 for each additional child in the same household. Private lessons cost $85 for one child and $75 for each extra child from the same home.
The EVK pool gets its name from Edward Van Koughnet, in whose memory the facility was built thanks to a gift from his sister, Hulda Smith. The outdoor facility has been a summer tradition for decades, drawing residents from a town that has grown to 1,812 people and sits about 15 kilometres northeast of Summerside in Prince County.
