Kensington, Prince Edward Island, residents can now sign up for the second community native planting event, set for Saturday, May 30, 2026, from 9 a.m. to noon at Stanley Bridge Hall.
The PEI Rural Beautification Society, now in its 81st year, is hosting the hands-on event, giving volunteers and families a chance to plant native species while learning about local biodiversity and environmental restoration.
The Society, founded over 75 years ago by Lt.-Col. E. W. Johnstone, has long encouraged Islanders to enhance their rural landscapes. Major sponsors include Veseys Seeds, a York, PEI-based seed company, and the Town of Kensington.
This event builds on Kensington’s community green thumb. In 2018, resident Jamie MacKay founded the Ross’s Place community garden beside 25 School Street, where the town donated land for 40 raised beds. Gardeners there have donated produce to local organizations.
The Sterling Women’s Institute, which has owned and operated Stanley Bridge Hall since 1978, is providing the venue.
