The Leduc & District Minor Football Association is opening its 2026 spring season in Leduc, Alberta, with registration still available for youth football programs. The association, also known as the Leduc Cats, offers flag and tackle football for children and teenagers between the ages of 6 and 18.
Co-ed flag football is available for players aged 6 to 15, with practices starting now and games beginning in late April. Girls between the ages of 13 and 18 can join the tackle football program, which includes a division for high school students and starts games at the end of March.
This year marks the 40th season for the football club, which was founded in 1987 by local sports hall of famer Bob Thompson. Since it began, the organization has grown to serve 200 athletes and has seen five former players go on to play professionally in the Canadian Football League.
The association relies on 65 on-field volunteers and requires families to contribute time toward coaching, managing teams, or helping on game days. Parents must also complete Vulnerable Sector Checks through the RCMP to help keep the programs running safely.
For families who need help with costs, grants are available through KidSport Leduc & County. The association presented to the Leduc City Council on March 2, 2026, to explain that they are at capacity and need more field space and better lighting at Lede Park to host more local games.
