Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for Milton warning of heavy rain starting Saturday, April 4, 2026. A low-pressure weather system moving across the country is expected to bring between 25 and 50 millimetres of rain to the area through Saturday night, creating a risk of flooding and difficult driving conditions.
The heaviest rainfall is anticipated to occur throughout Saturday evening and into the night. Forecasters noted that higher amounts of rain are possible if thunderstorms develop during the storm. This system, often called a Colorado low, is known for drawing in significant moisture and producing heavy precipitation as it moves eastward.
While Conservation Halton currently lists the flood status for local rivers and streams as normal, the ground remains saturated from recent snowmelt. The agency monitors critical infrastructure, including flood control dams and over 12 kilometres of channels like Sixteen Mile Creek, which flows through Milton. Officials are urging residents to stay away from low-lying areas that are prone to flooding.
The Town of Milton and regional partners continue to work on flood management efforts, including ongoing updates to flood mapping and various Basement Flooding Mitigation Programs. Residents are encouraged to monitor local water levels closely as the weather event progresses.
