The Milton Public Library in Milton, Ontario, has started a multi-year plan to expand digital services and give residents better access to technology. The library board approved the new roadmap to help community members, including seniors and students, use modern creative tools and online systems through 2029.
As part of this update, the library is adding creative drawing tablets at the Main Branch and a new sewing machine at the Sherwood Branch Tech Hub. The 2026 budget also includes nearly $300,000 for a new outreach vehicle to bring library services directly to different neighbourhoods and another $291,000 to update automated systems.
To make the library more accessible, officials also stopped charging overdue fines for children’s and teen materials starting in January 2026. This change resulted in the library clearing nearly $70,000 in existing late fees to help families use the library without financial barriers.
The library is also working with TechSoup to save about $23,000 on software costs through a new partnership. These savings help support programs like the Tech Café, which provides technology help and digital lessons for local seniors.
