Drivers and cyclists in Milton should plan for potential delays as construction work on Ontario Street is now underway. The Town of Milton launched the latest phase of road improvements on April 1, 2026, which will affect the stretch of road between Main Street East and Laurier Avenue.
While no full road closures are planned for the project, the town has confirmed that localized lane closures will be in place until June 30, 2026. Commuters who regularly use this route are encouraged to consider alternate roads to avoid the construction zone.
According to the town, this work is a major part of a larger effort to update local infrastructure. The project includes replacing curbs, sidewalks, and concrete road bases, along with full-depth asphalt replacement. Crews will also be focusing on rehabilitating storm sewer pipes and structures along the route.
Diana Jiona, the town’s Director of Infrastructure, is overseeing the project as part of the broader 2026 capital program. This year, the town is investing $125.8 million into 134 different infrastructure projects, including upgrades to roads and bridges. Throughout this construction, crews will also focus on specific intersection improvements at Ontario and Childs and Ontario and Oak, including new underground sewer connections and a right-turn lane for northbound traffic at Childs.
