A father and son from Milton and Orangeville face multiple charges following a lengthy investigation by the Halton Regional Police Service into vehicle fraud. The investigation, which began in November 2025, resulted in the seizure of two stolen vehicles with altered identification numbers.
Amer Kunda, 55, of Orangeville was charged on February 4, 2026, with offences including possession of property obtained by crime with an obliterated identification number (2 counts), uttering forged documents (5 counts), disobeying a court order (3 counts), and driving while under suspension. His son, 28-year-old Sameil Kunda of Milton, was charged in March 2026 with uttering forged documents (2 counts) and driving while under suspension (2 counts).
Investigators determined that the pair used fraudulent bills of sale and letters of employment to register a 2023 Ford F-150, originally stolen from Mississauga, and a 2021 Dodge Charger, stolen from Windsor. The vehicles were registered to a local Milton company without that business’s knowledge. According to the Équité Association, such fraud operations are frequently linked to organized crime and can be used to fund other illegal activities.
Both men have been released from custody pending a future court date. Police say the investigation is ongoing and that they believe additional offences may be discovered. While Halton Region has reported a nearly 60% drop in auto thefts year-over-year, police continue to monitor the situation. Halton Police Chief Stephen Tanner noted that with approximately 77 vehicles reported stolen in the region so far this year, the current rate remains too high.
