The special weather statement covers Smiths Falls, Perth, and Eastern Lanark County. A low pressure system is expected to stall over the area, leading to multiple rounds of showers and thunderstorms. Rain amounts will vary widely across the region due to the nature of the storms.
As of mid-morning Tuesday, light rain was already falling in Almonte with a temperature of 20°C and humidity at 96%. Residents should watch for water pooling on roads and in low-lying areas.
While the current alert is not a flood warning, the Mississippi Valley Conservation Authority continues to monitor river levels. As of May, watershed conditions were normal, but heavy rain can change things quickly. The municipality has a flood emergency plan, and sandbags are available year-round for residents at the Roads and Public Works Garage on Old Perth Road.
