Ottawa City Councillor Riley Brockington travelled to Almonte in Mississippi Mills, Ontario, on March 14, 2026, to meet with Mayor Christa Lowry. The two officials discussed how the city and surrounding rural areas can work more closely together on local issues.
Much of the conversation centered on shared priorities for the Rural Ontario Municipal Association. Mayor Lowry serves as the Chair of this group, which represents the interests of rural towns and townships when speaking to the provincial government.
The leaders also reviewed goals for the Association of Municipalities of Ontario. This organization helps different local governments join together to address shared challenges like infrastructure and housing.
Brockington visited the community to strengthen ties between the City of Ottawa and its neighbours. The meeting was part of an ongoing effort to ensure that both urban and rural voices are included in regional planning and advocacy.
