A 28-year-old St. John’s man is facing 10 criminal charges, including kidnapping and forcible confinement, after a woman was allegedly taken from her home in Mount Pearl earlier this month. The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary confirmed that officers located the woman at a business on Thorburn Road in St. John’s on the morning of May 4, 2026, after receiving a report that she was in distress.
Following an investigation by the police Major Crime Unit, the woman’s partner was arrested and charged with several offences, such as assault with a weapon, uttering threats, and breaching a probation order. He remains in custody.
Investigators are now asking for the public’s help to track the movements of the suspect’s vehicle, which is a white 2019 Subaru Impreza hatchback with a damaged black front bumper. The vehicle, bearing the Newfoundland and Labrador licence plate JJW 647, was seen travelling in the metro area between 12:00 a.m. and 12:40 p.m. on May 4. Police are specifically asking anyone who was at the Tim Hortons on Thorburn Road around 9:30 a.m. that day to come forward with any information.
This incident follows ongoing community discussions regarding safety in the region. The City of Mount Pearl recently released a Community Safety and Well-Being Plan in February 2026, which included a $200,000 budget allocation to address local safety concerns. Broader provincial data also shows a rise in reports of intimate partner violence, which increased by approximately 150 per cent across Newfoundland and Labrador between 2019 and 2023.
The Royal Newfoundland Constabulary maintains an Intimate Partner Violence Unit that provides support and resources for those affected by domestic situations. Residents with information regarding the vehicle or the incident can contact the police directly.
