Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, is getting ready to open registration for its Summer 2026 swimming lesson program at the Summit Centre. Local residents can sign up online starting June 23 at 5:00 PM, with open registration for everyone else beginning June 25 at 5:00 PM. The lessons aim to help swimmers of all ages build skills and confidence in the water throughout the summer.
The Summit Centre pool is scheduled to close for annual maintenance on June 14, but it is set to reopen just in time for the first lessons on July 6. The city is offering two scheduling options. Four-week intensive programs include two lessons per week and run from July 6 to July 30, with a second session from August 3 to August 27. Eight-week programs with one lesson per week span July 6 to August 30.
Lessons follow the national Lifesaving Society Swim for Life program, which teaches proper swimming strokes and water safety. Classes are available for all ages. Parent and Tot classes welcome infants as young as 3 months alongside a caregiver. Preschool, Swimmer, Teen, and Adult courses are also offered, plus lifeguard and instructor training for those wanting to gain certifications.
To get early access, Mount Pearl residents need to provide proof of residency when signing up. Accepted documents include a City of Mount Pearl tax bill, a recent voter registration card, or a utility bill showing the address. Registration is online only through the city’s recreation portal at www.mountpearl.ca/registration.
The Summit Centre opened in 2014 as a major recreation hub for the community, featuring a large aquatics complex with two pools, a slide, and other amenities. For questions about summer swimming lessons, residents can call Summit Centre customer service at (709) 748-1002.
