The City of Mount Pearl is currently moving forward with several development projects, including a proposed water tower and updates to land use rules that will impact local neighbourhoods. Residents are encouraged to stay informed as the city manages these changes under its 2026 budget, which totals $62.6 million.
A new water storage tank is planned for 7 Tavenor Place to support future infrastructure needs in the community. The project, which is part of the city’s 2026 capital investments, is situated about 350 metres east of the Tavenor Place cul-de-sac. Because the location is zoned as Open Space, the city is holding a public briefing to discuss the proposal on April 22, 2026, at 7:00 PM. This meeting will take place at the Council Chambers at City Hall, located at 3 Centennial Street.
In other planning matters, a property at 90 Glendale Avenue requested a height variance for an accessory building. The application sought to increase the structure’s height from the standard 4.5 metres to 4.9 metres. This request fell within the 10 per cent variance threshold allowed under city regulations, and the comment period for this matter closed on April 10, 2026.
The city has also taken steps to rezone land at 912-928 Blackmarsh Road. Following a public hearing held on April 9, 2026, the City Council officially adopted amendments to redesignate the property from Mixed Use to Residential, and from Commercial Mixed Use to Apartment Use. These updates clear the way for a project consisting of 51 rowhouse units, which will include nine quadplexes and five triplexes.
These developments align with the priorities set by the current council, led by Mayor Dave Aker, Deputy Mayor Nicole Kieley, and six councillors. The city’s 2026 financial plan maintains the residential mill rate at 7.7 mills and the commercial rate at 12.4 mills.
