The annual St. John’s-Mount Pearl MS Walk returns to the Reid Community Centre in Mount Pearl, Newfoundland and Labrador, on May 31, 2026. This local event invites residents to participate in a 5 km walk to raise funds for research and support services for Canadians living with multiple sclerosis.
Registration for the event begins at 10:00 AM, with opening ceremonies taking place at 11:00 AM. Participants have the option to join the walk in-person at the Reid Community Centre, located at 126 Smallwood Drive, or to participate virtually from their own location. Those interested in learning more can contact Melanie Bennett at [email protected] or 902-496-5874.
The event is hosted by MS Canada, an organization that has invested more than $224 million in research since 1948. Each year, the group provides approximately $10 million in funding to support studies on the biology and clinical aspects of the disease. Donations from the walk help support resources such as the MS Knowledge Network, which provides information to the public, and a 1:1 Peer Support Program that connects individuals with volunteers who have personal experience with the condition.
Approximately 90,000 Canadians live with multiple sclerosis, and the disease carries an estimated annual economic burden of $3.4 billion in Canada. As the country holds one of the highest rates of the disease worldwide, with regional prevalence rates in Atlantic Canada noted to be higher than the national average, community participation remains a vital part of the organization’s fundraising efforts.
The St. John’s-Mount Pearl MS Walk continues an annual tradition at the Reid Community Centre, following events held in May of 2024 and 2025. Across the country, the MS Walk brings together more than 40,000 participants in over 160 communities annually to support the fight against the disease.
