A warm and largely sunny week is on tap for Rimbey, Alberta this week after a weekend of severe thunderstorms moved through the area. Environment Canada‘s latest forecast shows temperatures climbing to 27 degrees Celsius on Tuesday, with a humidex making it feel more like 32 degrees. No weather alerts are in effect as of Monday afternoon.
Tuesday will be the hottest day, with mainly sunny skies and wind from the southeast at 20 kilometres per hour gusting to 40. The UV index will remain high at 7 on both Monday and Tuesday, meaning residents spending time outdoors should use sunscreen and wear protective clothing. Monday will see a high of 23 degrees under a mix of sun and cloud.
Saturday’s severe weather saw Environment Canada issue a red thunderstorm warning for Rimbey and surrounding communities, cautioning about baseball-sized hail, damaging wind gusts, and heavy rain. Large hail was reported in nearby Lacombe, Blackfalds, Ponoka, and Maskwacis. No damage reports for Rimbey have been detailed.
Mid-week conditions will cool slightly, with a 60 percent chance of showers on Wednesday and a high of 24 degrees. Thursday will bring a mix of sun and cloud with a high of 20 degrees before warming trends return later in the week. Overnight lows will dip to around 9 degrees Wednesday night.
With recent lightning and warm, dry conditions, Ponoka County Regional Fire Services has kept fire restrictions in place for its response area, which includes Rimbey.
