Residents of St. Thomas, Ontario, should prepare for a significant drop in temperatures this weekend as a cold front moves through the region. According to Environment Canada, the community will see a sharp shift from mild conditions to unseasonably cold air between Saturday and Sunday.
Saturday, April 18, is expected to reach a high of 17°C. The forecast includes a 60 per cent chance of showers. Winds are expected to pick up in the morning, blowing from the southwest with gusts reaching 50 kilometres per hour.
The weather will change quickly on Sunday, April 19, with the temperature falling to a high of only 8°C. This is about 5°C below the normal high for this time of year. Overnight into Monday, temperatures are expected to drop to -3°C, with a 30 per cent chance of rain showers or flurries.
The cool conditions will persist into Monday, April 20, which is forecast to have a high of 6°C and sunny skies. This weather swing is caused by a large low pressure system passing over Ontario, which is pulling warm air from the Gulf of Mexico followed by a surge of cold air from the Prairies. The Weather Network also noted that lake-effect flurries are expected to develop east of Lake Huron and Georgian Bay as the cold air moves over the water.
