A dog attack and a vehicle crashing into a building in St. Thomas, Ontario, led police to lay drug trafficking charges against a man and a woman. Officers found suspected methamphetamine in a Dodge Caravan after responding to reports of a dog attacking two people on Sunset Drive near Wilson Avenue on July 7, 2026.
According to the St. Thomas Police Service, two people were seriously hurt and taken to hospital. The dog also had injuries and later died. Police arrested a 44-year-old St. Thomas man and charged him with assault with a weapon and uttering threats to cause death or bodily harm. He remains in custody.
While going through the vehicle, officers spotted what looked like methamphetamine. That led to a search warrant on July 9, where police seized 32.3 grams of methamphetamine, 2.4 grams of crack cocaine, brass knuckles, and a digital scale. The drugs have an estimated street value of about $2,700. The 44-year-old man now also faces charges for possessing methamphetamine and cocaine for trafficking, and unauthorized possession of a weapon.
A 39-year-old St. Thomas woman faces the same drug and weapon charges. She turned herself in at police headquarters on July 14 and was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
In a separate case, police arrested a 43-year-old St. Thomas man for drug-impaired driving early on July 14. A homeowner called about a strange vehicle idling in a driveway, and officers found two people asleep inside with open alcohol and drug items nearby. A drug recognition expert confirmed the driver was impaired.
Police also used Narcan to revive a 31-year-old St. Thomas man found unresponsive behind a Talbot Street address on July 14. Two doses brought him back to consciousness. On July 13, officers arrested a 39-year-old woman on a probation warrant, a 59-year-old man for failing to follow an undertaking, and a 34-year-old woman for breaking a no-contact order. The St. Thomas Police Service is reminding everyone to lock vehicles and report anything suspicious.
