Residents of St. Thomas can expect a cool and unsettled start to the week before a significant warming trend arrives for the coming days. According to Environment Canada, the region is currently experiencing active weather due to a clash between colder air from the north and milder air from the south.
Through Thursday, conditions in the community will remain cool, with temperatures hovering around 12 to 13 degrees Celsius. The forecast includes cloudy skies with a 40 per cent chance of showers and brisk northwest winds gusting up to 50 kilometres per hour. As of 1:00 p.m. on Wednesday, conditions recorded at the nearby London International Airport showed light rain showers and a temperature of 7.1 degrees Celsius.
A notable change in the weather is expected as the week progresses. Temperatures are forecast to climb steadily, reaching 28 degrees Celsius by Monday, May 18. This peak will be well above the seasonal normal high of 19 degrees Celsius for this time of year.
While the warming trend will bring improved conditions, some moisture may linger early next week. Scattered showers are possible through Tuesday, May 19, when temperatures are expected to reach a high of 29 degrees Celsius with a 30 per cent chance of precipitation.
