St. Thomas police responded to a string of incidents on July 25, 2026, including vehicle break-ins, shoplifting, two assaults, and the arrest of a woman on outstanding warrants. The St. Thomas Police Service released details of the calls on July 26.
North of the downtown core, officers investigated a vehicle entry where a backpack containing about $800 worth of items was taken. A 30-year-old man was later found on Princess Avenue with the stolen backpack and property in his possession, police said.
On Rice Road, another vehicle was broken into. A resident reported that $100 in cash and bank cards were stolen. Three purchases were made at local businesses using the cards before the owner cancelled them.
At a retail store, staff told police an unknown man concealed roughly $400 in hair styling items. He left the store without paying and was last seen riding a bicycle south from the area.
Two assaults were reported the same day. At a local homeless shelter, staff called police after a fight between two men. The suspect fled before officers arrived but was located a short distance away and taken into custody. In a separate call, police went to an address north of downtown for a physical altercation between two men. Following an investigation, a 62-year-old man was arrested for assault and released with a future court date.
In an unrelated matter, officers located a 31-year-old woman south of the downtown core. She was arrested on multiple outstanding warrants and held for court.
The weekend incidents come amid broader concerns about rising calls for service. St. Thomas Police Chief Marc Roskamp has said the force is on track for another record-breaking year, with property crimes and social issues placing growing demands on officers.
