The St. Thomas Police Service has released its latest report on road safety, detailing 92 reported vehicle collisions that took place in the city between January 1 and March 31, 2026. This data, which involved 169 vehicles, shows a slight decrease in local traffic incidents compared to the same period in 2024.
According to the police, there were eight injuries reported as a result of these crashes during the first three months of the year. The report also highlighted 20 incidents classified as hit-and-runs. Additionally, police recorded five impaired driving incidents, all of which involved alcohol.
When looking at when and where these accidents are most likely to happen, the report notes that Fridays saw the highest number of collisions at 19, while Saturdays recorded the lowest with five. The most common time for a collision was 4 pm. Drivers are encouraged to exercise extra caution at the city’s top three accident locations for the quarter: Elm Street at Fairview Avenue, Fairview Avenue at Wellington Street, and First Avenue at Redan Street. On March 17, emergency services also responded to a collision involving a pedestrian at the intersection of Hiawatha Street and Talbot Street.
The police continue to monitor traffic safety through targeted initiatives. Recently, officers conducted an enforcement project at First Avenue and Talbot Street, which resulted in 62 reports, five warnings, and three charges.
