The Rural Municipality of Ste. Anne, Manitoba, started its spring road weight restrictions on March 20, 2026. These rules are designed to protect local roads from damage as the winter frost melts and makes the ground soft and vulnerable.
Under these restrictions, heavy vehicles and trucks must reduce their weights to prevent deep ruts and cracks in the pavement. The Public Works Department uses these measures to avoid expensive repairs to the local road network during the thawing season.
The weight limits are required by the municipality under its local truck route law, known as By-Law 2024-07. Commercial drivers and farmers in the region will need to adjust their loads or find different routes while the roads are unstable.
The restrictions are set to remain in place until May 29, 2026. However, the municipality may change this date depending on the weather and guidelines from the Province of Manitoba.
