A heat warning is in effect for Stonewall, Manitoba and the surrounding area as temperatures and humidity combine to make it feel close to 40 degrees this week. Environment Canada issued the warning early Tuesday, July 28, 2026, and it remains in place for communities across the R.M. of Rockwood, including Teulon and Stony Mountain.
Daytime highs will reach 31 to 33 degrees Celsius, but it is the humidex that will make it feel much warmer, climbing to 38 or possibly 41. Overnight lows will not offer much relief, only dipping into the upper teens or low twenties. The warning means the region has met Manitoba’s heat criteria for at least two days in a row: daytime highs of 32 degrees or more, overnight lows of 16 degrees or more, and humidex values of 38 or higher.
Health risks from this kind of heat are greatest for older adults, infants, people with chronic conditions, and those living alone. Residents are urged to drink lots of water, avoid leaving anyone or any pets in a parked vehicle, and find air-conditioned spaces if their homes become too hot. The South Interlake Seniors Resource Centre in Stonewall offers support for residents 55 and older, a group that can be especially vulnerable during heat waves. Checking in on an older neighbour or relative can make a real difference when temperatures stay high day and night.
A change is expected by the end of the week. Clouds will build Thursday with a 60 percent chance of showers and a high of 29 degrees. Friday looks cooler still, with a mix of sun and cloud and a high of 27 degrees, which should end the warning.
