The Chinook’s Edge School Division is bringing in new support staff for classrooms and changing the upcoming school calendar for families in Sylvan Lake, Alberta. During a board meeting on February 24, 2026, the division announced that two specialized teams will be assigned to schools to help with student needs and classroom management.
Each team will consist of one teacher and two educational assistants as part of a provincial effort to support busy learning environments. This extra help arrives as H.J. Cody High School reports being over capacity at 106 per cent, with student numbers expected to grow to 115 per cent by 2027.
The board is also focusing on staff well-being by creating a new health and wellness program that includes a part-time coordinator and leaders at each school. A banquet is also planned for March 5, 2026, to celebrate local teachers and staff who are retiring or reaching major career milestones.
Families should take note of a recent update to the 2026-2027 school calendar regarding the autumn break. Trustees have moved the fall holidays to November 11-13, 2026, to help with busing services and provide a better fit for local families.
