The Sylvan Lake Blizzard Soccer Club will wrap up its spring recreational season on June 20, 2026 with a full day of games at Leader Field. Young players from age divisions U5 through U13 will compete, giving families in Sylvan Lake, Alberta a chance to watch the final matches of the season.
The Sylvan Lake Blizzard Soccer Club invites the community to come out and support the young athletes. The tournament will run throughout the day on two under-10 sized pitches and four under-8 sized pitches at the Town of Sylvan Lake-owned facility. It is a celebration of a season of growth for hundreds of local kids.
Alongside the games, the club is running a bottle drive fundraiser from 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. An enclosed trailer will be parked near the John Salsbury Tournament House, where families and residents can drop off bags of empty beverage containers. The goal is to collect up to 300 bags—the equivalent of every family bringing just one bag. The Delburne Bottle Depot is partnering with the club to handle the returns, with all proceeds going back to support local youth soccer.
Bottle drives are a well-established way for Alberta sports clubs and community groups to raise funds. Across the province, depots help raise more than $30 million each year for charities, schools, teams, and other local causes, according to the Alberta Bottle Depot Association. The Sylvan Lake Blizzard club, which has offered grassroots soccer in the region since the mid-1980s and incorporated as a non-profit in 2001, relies on these community efforts to keep programs accessible.
Residents are encouraged to start saving their bottles now and bring them to Leader Field during the tournament. The funds raised will help the volunteer-run organization continue providing soccer opportunities for children in the growing lakeside community.
